- TSJERK LYCKLAMA A NYEHOLT
August 11, 1946 ~ June 10, 2019
Tsjerk Lycklama a Nyeholt, age 72, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, left us on Monday, June 10, 2019 after an 18-month battle with cancer.
Tsjerk was born to Jelle Lycklama a Nyeholt and Rinkje Wynia on August 11, 1946 on Lollum, a Friesen town in The Netherlands.
Tsjerk was very proud of his Dutch heritage for anyone willing to listen, often recounting factual details about Dutch accomplishments around the globe. He often reflected upon his experiences during the military service in the Dutch Navy as a Sidnalman on a Minesweeper.
In 1973 he married Tite Van Der Muelen, a local from Lollum, whom he'd had his eyes on for many years. Also and Tsjerk continued to milk cows together until 1982, when Tsjerk decided to immigrate to the US with his wife and children.
Looking for more freedom for growing his passion as a Dairy farmer, he and his family came to Northeast Texas in 1982 to fulfill his dreams for him and his family. Hard work and never give up attitude allowed him to grow his business and move again along the Red River. In the late 90's Tsjerk again moved his family to Arizona to continue his agriculture passion, this time growing Alfalfa and raising beef cattle on his largest ranch yet. He and his family made their final major relocation in 2006 back to southeast Oklahoma to continue working in cattle and a new endeavor for him, Tree Farming.
A vert knowledgeable and well-read man, Tsjerk was quick to learn about topics that interested him, which was recognized in 2011 as he was selected as Tree Farmer of the Year for Oklahoma. Anyone who knew him were well aware that he never met a problem that couldn't be solved, nor a feat too difficult to accomplish. Tsjerk was known by many to be a very loyal man, who loved his family very much, especially his wife, Tiete. There was no doubt that he loved his cattle, checking on them twice per day up until a week prior to his passing.
2012 was a very difficult time for Tsjerk and his family, as they lost his son and two grandsons in a tragic drowning accident. Tiete remained at Tsjerk's side through all of life's challenges, even nurturing and nursing him through his long illness. Through the process of his illness Tsjerk prepared his passing and was ready to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ, and looking for a reunion with his son, grandsons and many other loved ones ahead of him. Tsjerk was a member of Faith Christian Center in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
Tsjerk was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Geertje Lycklama a Nyeholt, a son, Sytze (Stephen) Lycklama a Nyeholt, and two grandsons, Devin and Dalton Lycklama a Nyeholt.
Surviving are the love of his life, Tiete Lycklama a Nyeholt of Broken Bow, Oklahoma and two children, Teatske and Scott Talbert of Stillwell, Oklahoma, Nynke
